a cd key is what comes with the game to allow you to play it. simply put, a cd hash is a representative set of numbers and letters of your cd key. the hash is not your real cdkey, but it can be used for such things as stat tracking or can be used by admins for banning people from servers. think of it as the "public" version of your cd key. you don't have to worry about other people getting it.

What if they get it, can they hack their install to use it and impersonate and get banned?

Or does it direct check against the CD key every time you load to make sure it's the correct one.
