Electronic Arts and Digital Illusions have today announced the development of Battlefield: Modern Combat for the PlayStation 2. Currently scheduled for release towards the end of this year, the game will be the first in the Battlefield series to appear on a console and will allow up to 24 players to battle with each other simultaneously online whilst communicating with each other via USB headsets.
Battlefield: Modern Combat will allow players to fight for one of three military superpowers: the United States, China, or the newly formed Middle East Coalition. Players will have access to over 70 different state-of-the-art weapons and advanced weapon systems in the game, including heat-seeking missiles, laser designated bombs, and the like. The 30-plus vehicles in the game will include tanks, helicopters, and fast attack vehicles.
