Why would you hate fileplanet? It's the best/most convenient thing since sliced bread. What would any of these kids do about mirroring their 300mb mods without them? You going to host it?

I've hosted mirrors for DC releases for IRC users -

That wasnt even a linked mirror - That was simply for IRC users. I was a linked mirror for .5 - I dont have the graph handy, but this box, being on gige, did about 240mb at peak, average over 7 days was 190mb (per second)- Just for .5 release week.

Waiting in line for an hour then DL a file that takes another hour or more just plain sucks. I'll stick with Gamespot where I get DL speeds of 350 all the time.

DO you pay for gamespot?

I pay the few dollars for a fileplanet account, And get any file i want VERY quickly any time i want. the 3 free subscriptions and 1 free game i get every year more than pay for FP.

Im looking, Galactic conquest isnt there - Unless im blind. Another check for fileplanet - They always have the files on time. - 350K is useless, if there's not a file to send you

Anyways, if its the FREE fileplanet you hate, that makes sense - Lineups generally suck, but if you look at my last post, you will understand why you just cant let all the pigs onto the buffet table.

It was there as soon as I got home from work yesterday, didn't check before then.

I DO pay for Gamespot, but the DLX service is free to anyone which kinda makes me mad but that's another story. I do hate Fileplanet which is why I always tell people to use DLX because there's never a line.

Dude, Packet I have nothing against fileplanet, EXCEPT when they ONLY host the package on DL CTL servers as opposed to the old fashioned FTP servers. Unless you know some ubah, leet secret WGET don't work from the DLCTL servers because they load a plugin program for it. I mean am I the only one that sees the stupidity of such a choice? Ok let's host the linux server files on a system that they can't get them from with their linux servers. Yeah intelligent, regular geniuses there.... I am amazed at the new levels the world's common sense in general has plunged to.

And ,regardless of the existance or lack thereof of Fileplanet, people will always get their Mods distributed by some means just like they did back in the old QI days when all we had was a 36.6k connection, and 50 meg CTF downloads that you had to scour the entire net just to find. And it will probably become more prolific with the advent of faster broadband. Heck I have a 6meg down and 3 meg up connection on my DSL and have zero bandwidth restrictions, and I know most places in Cali have garunteed 10meg bi-directional connection for $100/mth. with no bandwidth limitations in amount used. Sure it's no dedicated OC-43 for that one server box, but it's good enough for an FTP server and sharing mods, but that's just my opinion.

Heh - I thought this too, And emailed them expressing my outrage (Are you suprised i bitch at any person or company that displeases me?) - They prompty replied telling me to look more closely - There will always be servers without download control. Look at the new galactic conquest url download page (i see a uk and an east coast for subscribers that do not have dl ctrl).... The magic wget still works - Click the download url on a non-control server, then rightclick the generated link, copy the chortcut to the clipboard, and paste it into a wget line - wget "<fp url>"

Right, and that will always happen - This is why i mirror a lot of mods - but, FP offers a great, speedy service, for a relatively low price. Why hate on them for it?

Yup for subscribers, sorry but I ain't shelling out money for a file planet account i'll use MAYBE once every couple of months . And note I know I may have come across harsh that wasn't my intent. I just come from a heavy business background and I expect the places which I do business with to be just as professional, especially when my service and levels thereof depend upon being able to get the product from them in a timely fashion. Yeah sure it's just a game but I like NS being known as the best, and most up to date servers out there .

I've been downloading my mods using two-degrees. It works pretty fast and there's never a line.
The software caters to software developers and even has an entire section dedicated to bf1942 mods.
