My Uber Cooler....

Rigged this up the other day.. Made a HUGE difference....Cost me $20.00 and about an hour of my time..

I still need to clean up the odds and ends and re-run the cables and tie wrap things up nice again.. but hey! It works.. I am hooked into the central air of the house through a wall vent.. Granted the air does not run 24/7 in the house, but I can run the suplemental fan and pull cool/cold air in from the basement where the furnace/ca system draws its air from.. When the CA does kick on.. Things just run that much cooler.

I went from 40 celcuis at idle down to 16/17 celcuis.. Under load temps dropped as well.. From 60's down to around 30+/- a few degrees. I am running an amd 64 3700+ cpu.. We all know those run hot.. but I have a Zalman cooler on it as well.. (Thanks SSP Redy - I heard you say you got great results with one on teamspeak.. so I tried it and it is great.)

Here is the machine. The wall plate is affixed over the vent.. Then I used a 4" adjustable elbow adapter into the wall plate.. From there 4" flexible duct tubing that connects to aother 90 degree adjustable elbow.. into a 4" adapter that is affixed to the side of the case.

friend of mine is running a dual ducting hose, one in front of his case the other out the back(120mm fan hole in the back, custom 5 1/4 drive cover, takes up two slots) and has it rigged to a board that fits inside a window sil, with filters at each end. case is also airtight(more or less).

case temp in winter fans off(depends on outside weather)= -10degrees
case temp in summer with fans on = 5degrees

I am sure with a window unit piping into it.. Hell Yeah, you could get better temps.. The distance from my CA unit to the area where I have my computer has got to be 50 or 60 feet if not farther... There is certainly to be some thermal loss in that distance..Therefore, not as efficient as a window unit 10 feet away or less.

Oh..and I could put a window unit in behind the wall that is behind my computer.. There is plenty of space.. However, I don;t think I would see much benefit on doing that.

no this is just air, it's cold here, so he's using the relatively cool outside temprature.

basically a natural cooler.

what he has is a peice of plywood that has the filters and pipe ends attached to it.

my only concern with that bonez is that it would be pulling in LOTS of moisture, and that ain't good.

filters for moisture? or is it filters for moisture? Cause I would think that you would need a dehumidifier to do that. But hey, what do I know

With Central Air. The air that comes in through the vents is dry. With just piping in outside air.. I would think that would be more moist. Since any water in it is not condensed out.

I don't know of any filter out there that removes moisture....
