My Ourweb.net hosting company rant

This is a post I made on a web hosting forum about an experience that I had today with a web host. I dont think most of you guys are interested in this, but someone may browse this site sometime and also be looking for a host. Hopefully they'll see this and stay away from this company...
----------------------------------------------------------------

I apologize for this being so long but I wanted to give a factual account of my encounter with Ourweb -dot-net. Everything I say here is true and can be backed up with emails.

Ok, so I'm looking for a place to host large FTP files for our gaming site. We host our own forum and game servers, but need to make updates and patches for PC games available to our forum members. I found this forum on Google, did some searching here and eventually stumbled across that "Find a Host" pulldown menu at the top of the homepage. I submitted the following information, and got a few replys back, one of which was from Ourweb -dot-net.

Most of this is what I asked in the original quote through Hostvoice-dot-com. I added some to a direct email later on. More on that further down:

Me...Hello. We have a need to have large files(approx 1gb) to be available to our gaming forum members for download. A domain name is not neccessary, we can do it via IP unless you require a domain name. Email accounts not neccessary. Anon ftp or the ability to link to http downloads(via IP) are needed. No website will be installed. We can limit concurrent downloaders to around 5 if your site FTP supports it. This way we can keep host machine from being overloaded. We do not expect constant downloads, but do expect burst download demand as new files are released. Fast upload and at least 250KB/sec for each 5 concurrent downloaders is needed. For the time being, we expect monthly transfer to be about 350gb/month, more than likely a lot less. That may change over time as our site grows.

Can these requirements be met with your plans? Please be honest. We like to offer good services to our website members. They expect it and demand it.

Thank you for your time.
Doug

Now granted what I was asking for may have been too much for Ourweb-dot-net's lower price plans, but I'm not our web guy. I don't know the prices or requirements for what I needed. Besides, the email reply said they could host our site and they give quotes.

I quote:
From : Bill Banks <office@ourweb-dot-net>
"You have requested a quote from HostVoice-dot-com....

GET ON THE WEB ---- ourweb-dot-net

We can host your site. Our hosting features include: Domain Hosting, unlimited bandwidth, 1 gb of disk space, unlimited email mapping..."

Alrighty! I figure I better send an email to a real Ourweb -dot-net address just to be sure that this wasn't an autoreply and they knew what I wanted. Besides, the original email said they do custom quotes too. Anyways, I sent my original HostVoice message from above(edited a few things) to their address. Here is what I got as a reply. This is not a joke nor a lie. I edited the bad word:

I quote: "Not for free a$$hole!!!!!"

What the... This guy just called me an A'hole? Since when do businesses treat people like this? After a few minutes I shook off my perplextion and decided to call and complain. I call and try and talk to the guy. He has a REALLY bad speech impediment so an operator has to translate for me. At the end of the so-called conversation he says "I can get you a quote." I say no thanks, I'll take my business elsewhere considerng the way I've been treated. He screams WHY DID YOU CALL in his best Corky from Life Goes On voice and I explain that I wanted to voice my complaint with Ourweb-dot-net. He then goes off on some unintelligible rant, the operator breaks in and says "Thank you sir." I say thank you to her as well and hang up. I was content that my complaint was heard, that's all I wanted and didn't give the incident any more thought.

But, a few minutes later I get an email from him again. Again I am insulted. Here I quote(bad word edited by me)
"so why did you call us.... a$$hole
-------------------------------------------------
Bill Banks Wachusett Programming
ourweb -dot-net"

LMAO. Is this guy for real? I then send him a "nice" reply explaining how I wanted the company to know how he was treating potential customers. I also asked him if he got girls with his speech impediment. Childish I know, but the guy had it coming.

So there it is. Take it for what it's worth to you potential Ourweb customers. Buyer beware.

/end rant.
