Why I do not get along with police.

Ok, I will say this is a bias opinion, but it is from my expierences in life with police. So, if there are any police that read this, sorry, it is just how I feel.

On December 23rd I got in to a car accident. Nothing major, everyone was fine.

I was coming back from looking at a house to rent in Delaware. I am driving through an intersection (I had the green light, I remember this because i thought to myself that having a light on the telephone pole was an unusual place for it.)

As I begin to make my way in to the intersection, some pick up truck decided to run a light. By the time I noticed it was coming, it was too late, he tried to go around me and i ended up tagging the right rear side of his truck.

So, I do the right thing, I call 911, and they send a police officer to the scene.

As the officer pulled up (keep in mind this is in a city, not rural at all, like a few hundred yards from skyscrapers), I saw him. He was livid, screaming something (the windows were up, but he was looking at my car and was clearly not happy).

He gets out of the car, does not ask what happened, only wanted to see ID and insurance. I provided mine, and the guy driving the truck provided his.

10 to 15 minutes later, he gets out of his car and hands me and the other guy an insurance exchange form all filled out.

I politley asked him for the police report because I wanted one. He said that because the damage was under 1500.00 the city of Wilmington does not fill out police reports.

I did not question it, but the damage done to my car was clearly over 1500.00. At the time I figured the insurance companies would work it out.

So I get home, call the insurance company and do my recorded statement thing. Explained what happened and they said they would get back to me.

Ok, at this point I was ok with everything, but then I get a call back from the insurance company and they tell me that they got the recorded statement from the other driver and he said that I ran the light, I admitted it to him AND the cop! Ok, i can see where this is going, nobody wants to take responsibility......So i politley say to the my insurance company, well I am not worried, the guy clearly lied to you, call the police officer and the truth will set me free.

Well, I guess that I was wrong. She called the police officer, he said that I admitted running a light! What the hell! Obviously I am not happy about this at all. I asked, if i admitted it, why do I not have a ticket? Why is there no police report? She said that the officer said that because it was under 1500.00 no police report was needed, she also tells me that because i so eagerly provided my insurance, he let it slide.

Look, I can understand if the driver is going to lie, i can sort of expect that to happen, but why in the hell would a cop do that to me? I did nothing worng, I have never been in a moving accident in my life. I have a class A DL i drive safe.

oddly enough, it turns out that the other driver and the 3 other people that were in his truck, are drug addicts on some kind of work/halfway house program.

So to sum it up in a nutshell, i dont have collision, have over 1500.00 damage to my vehicle, add a nice dent to the truck, 4 druggies trying to rehab themselves, and a lying pig cop, who is going to foot the bill for all of this?????

I bet it is not going to be the junkies.

This country is going to hell and the law enforcement agencies are just as much a problem as the federal government. I have not always been a good and law abiding person. I have made mistakes and I have paid for them, but I can say one thing with 100% clarity and certainty.

I don't trust cops.

Well I'm no Police officer but I have been on the police academy. If it comforts you, a cop pulling a stunt like that here, would probably be firerd if he would lose a possible trial.

But I feel you man, but what can you do?
Go to court? Press charges against the cop for official misconduct. Atleast there will be an investigation about probably.
Show everybody that you mean business, that you refuse to accept something you haven't done.
Remember not all cops are assholes.

did the cop give the other guy a ticket?

i hate that shit when they don't give the ticket to the person who was wrong. i had some hot chick rear-end the back of my trailer. he didn't give her a ticket because she was hot, a firefighter and because this happened right after 9/11. she even admitted to the cop she was wrong. it was clear she was! it was obvious. you ever see what the DOT bumper on a trailer can do to the front of a mini-van? let's just say that the DOT bumper almost always wins. hehe.

the next time you're in an accident, the first thing you need to do is try and find a witness immediately. to hell with checking on the other guy to see if he is injured. CYA- Cover Your Ass.

check the laws in the state this happened in. Florida is a No Fault state. if that accident happened here and the cop didn't give either party a ticket, that means nobody is responsible. either the insurance companies fight it out to see who pays what, or they just decide to pay for only their client's damages(if you have that coverage).

i feel your pain man. i went through this crap in a different accident. some chump was in a hurry to get out of a gas station and get to work. he cut across 2 lanes of traffic to get into my turning lane. he ignored the no right turn sign in the gas station parking lot and ended up hitting the front end of Mary's Rav4. the cop did not give a ticket in the incident either, but at least he stated in his report that it looked like the other guy was at fault. still, that chump claimed it was my fault. he claimed that i hit him. lying asshole.

well you could argue were is your confession to running the light. i mean theres no proof just the word of the junkies and the cop. as long as there is no hard evidence against you you cant be responsible.

And my stand point, I am an insurance agent, and see this ALL THE TIME!!! You will find cops that just dont want to be bothered, and it is my understanding, a Police report is required no matter what? Did you call the higher up? Complain about this officer? Seeing this other guy was a juniie, is his insurance even valid? If he is living in halfway house, and has nothing, and his insurance was cancelled for nonpayment, again you are stuck. I feel your pain, but not all cops are bad, my brother is one, and a damn good one, but he is just one person. Cops in general, yes, they are corrupt, and lazy! and let me say, you arent the only one that this happens to, like I said, I deal with people all week with similar issues, such as the neighbor backs into other parties car, you can see the paint marks then denies it. yup, all the time! You got to be a ball buster back, not to the point of getting arrested, but when the officer said, that line of crap about 1500 dollar damage for a police report, I would simply say, I believe my car has more than 1500 dollars worth of damage. and that whole line that you gave your insruance over to easy??? Umm, that is the law, it is amazing how stupid some people are, you are REQUIRED to show insurance. But if this makes you feel better, I bet you $100 the other party's insurance wasnt valid. You know how many people get insurance just to register a car, and then low and behold, dont pay it again, I wonder if the cop even called in the plates??? that sucks man!

Sure can, I can get you numbers for insurance commissioners etc, cant promise though, as every state has different rules and Regs! I work for Allstate if that helps any, though, I it looks like I will be a State Farm Agent with my own office in the near future, been doing this for 10 friggin years.
