Bellsouth DSL Extreme is here.
It's only $5 more if you're already a BS Fast Access Ultra customer. Just got done ordering mine, $55/mo.
Features:
-Twice as fast as FastAccess DSL Ultra, Up to 3Mbps/384Kbps.
-Static IP Address.
if you live in the S. Florida area, your only other option(that I know of) for these speeds or better is from Adelphia Cable. i had their service and it sucked balls compared to Bellsouth DSL. the latency and downtime is MUCH better with BS. if it's broke, they usually fix it fast. i argued for years with Adelphia. they would always deny that there was a problem. never again will they see my money.
now, i dont want to hear from you Canadians about how fast your connections are for the extremely low price you guys pay . i already know that internet users in the US are totally getting screwed for the amount we pay vs. the bandwidth we get. 10mbps for $40CDN. you can't find anything like that for that price here in the States.

The only thing i am not too happy about is the static ip address.
I am not too worried about it, but what if you hit the wrong web page, or get ip banned and have no way to contact a person etc.. also makes it easier for people to run port scans etc.. I will still do it, but i will have to play with mmc and tighten up on security.
On the other hand, Adelphia does suck, i had it for years myself, but now that i live in zero beach, i have the option for comcast extreme. I should go to dsl reports and see what current users say.
I know you frequent that site hp, whats the word on Bellsouth's new service?
Though bellsouth is stable, I personally think they lack in support. Yeah they get it fixed quicker than adelphia, but they give the same blanketed responses adelphia does. Did you know that some of their support is done up the road from you? Aegis handles it. That should tell you how I feel about the support they provide.

When it's working, it's great. If it starts having problems, no one at Adelphia seems to know anything about it and if they do, they don't give you any further information. About a year ago my 2-way cable modem connection speed slowed to that of a 56k modem for about 3 weeks. I must have called Adelphia over 10 times during that period and each time I received the same answer... "We're doing upgrades and your speed issues should be corrected in 24 hours". The good news out of this one is that although it took 3 weeks of not being able to play Desert Combat (my ping was in the 1000s), my speed was initially restored to 3mbit as oppossed to my initial 1 mbit speed.
Upgrading my one-way cable to two-way was also seemed to be a disorganized challenge for Adelphia.

i agree with you. i'm not happy about the static IP either. i have absolutley no need for it, and would not take it if i had the option(i never asked if i could keep a dynamic IP). since it's only another $5 a month, i'm gonna try the faster service out. tell you the truth, even though i currently have slower speed than cable, i'm very happy with what i have. it's extermely rare for me to wish that i had faster service. if i could get a faster upload speed, i'd rather spend the extra money on that.
Groovydude, I have to ask...what is Geocaching?

Man, that irks me to no end! Around here, near Albany NY, we have Time Warner and Verizon as our choices... 3Mb/384k for Road Runner and some garbage like 256k/90k for a comparably priced DSL line. No competition sucks in a big way...
Only DSL worth having is either their 7.1Mb/768K Biz package at the going rate of $200/month + installation fees and modem...
My cable isn't bad by any means, but I would prefer to be able to run my DC/BFV servers/Website at home instead of borrowing the T-1 at work here
10Mb/1Mb! Oh, to be able to bond 2 of those together...
