i went to update my ipod mini today and after putting all my songs on it i have 143mb left. i also use my ipod as portable storage and a backup device. i would like to no how to have all the music still in the itunes library, but not on the ipod, because i currently would like to put a 200mb file on it and can't figure out how to free up some space without taking song out of my library. i thought u just uncheck the song and it doesnt load onto the ipod but i unchecked about 200 songs and still have 143mb left. anyone no how to have 958 songs in your itunes library, but only load around 700 on?

Turn off the option to have ITunes auto manage your library.
