Creative ZEN Nano Plus
After playing with my kids iPod Nano, I decided 3 things:
1. I liked the iPod. It's kind of cool.
2. I want my own MP3 player.
3. iTunes is a pain in the ass. I want a player that is more easily managed without the DRM crap.
I think the Creative ZEN Nano Plus 1GB for $99 at Wally World will do what I want. More functional than the iPod Nano at a cheaper price. I've read a lot of reviews about this player and most are positive. Does anyone here have this player and if so, what do you think about it?

Why use Ipod, when you can use a regular MP3 player? Doesn't Ipod charge for their music?

dunno - i use ipod, its one of the older ones and i just replaced the battery on it. i like how durable it is. i dont know what your talking about with the pay for music, you can still rip cd's.
i use lala.com for my cd's its 1.63 per cd and you get the whole thing, usually within 5 mailing days.(if you need an invite, please tell me!) i then just put that cd on my player. no drm - no trouble whatsoever..

Horse, might I suggest an IRiver? I've used both and couldn't really stand the IPod interface or Itunes. I like with the IRiver that it's basically the same as your PC's hard drive. You drag and drop songs/folders and it reads it that way. It doesn't auto arrange them into artist/album/song like Itunes. I hated that the most since if your ID3 tags aren't done properly your stuck with a huge mess.
I'm looking at getting the IRiver T10 1GB. It has a color screen and can display photos. It retails for around $135. The one without the color screen 1GB is $99 (B&H photo, and J&R music world).
This player supports wma purchased music as well as other ripped file types (wma, mp3, ogg).

Swede, i said i was gonna get the Creative Zen Nano, not an iPod Nano. i like the iPod Nano, but hate iTunes.
thanks for the suggestion Stryker. i did consider it, but i really didn't want to spend more than $100 on one of these things. actually i only wanted to spend $50-$60, but figured i'd better get something with 1gb because i download MP3's at high bitrates. i can live without ASF, OGG and the color screen. the Zen Nano does pretty much everything else the T10 does.
EDIT: i missed where u mentioned the $99 non color version. oh well, i got the Zen Nano from Walmart. the attraction of instant gratification was just too much.

quick review of this thing:
-earbuds are not very good, but i saw a lot of reviewers say the same thing about various other players. go get better earbuds.
-sounds very good on the Sennheiser earphones i use for my PC.
-i wish it would go louder. right now it's driving headphones, so it might be a lot louder on decent earbuds.
-seems easy enough to use, though i'm still trying to get the hang of accessing subfolders.
