I have a bad habit of driving way too fast in sports cars, and for that reason (due to a great sense of self-preservation) will not buy one, or make any attempts at doing so. I also purposely buy slow cars to prevent me from killing myself while listening to loud, fast-paced music (which causes me to drive faster).
This being said, when I went out to buy a new car last year, I needed a slow, fuel efficient, reliable (See: Japanese), cargo capable vehicle. After a few months of doing research, and bothering the hell out of several car salespeople, the selling policies and incredible interior design of the Scion XB won me over. I cannot say enough good things about this Consumer Digest best buy.
It does have exceptional braking and handling compared to the large American cars I'm used to driving though, which still makes me a bit reckless at times...
I know I'm supposed to show a picture, but you all know what they look like. I got no fringes, as I see them as vain and unnecessary (remember, I'm a network administrator. My PC chassis are always beige or black with no frills. Function over fashion) and the vehicle is Model T Ford black.

That's not mine of course. I'd never pay $400 bucks for those rims. What a waste. Everything else matches though, except mine is now Steelers' colored, thanks to all the pollen.
I have thought about getting a very faint, smokey metallic image of a fox in line drawing that's hard to make out, and have it painted on so that you can only catch it for a second at a certain angle. One of those images where you double take and wonder if what you saw was ever really even there. It'd suit my personality.
It was a lot of fun back when I bought mine. Was one of the first in my area for a long time. Kept getting looks at stoplights. Some people would honk their horns and ask me to roll down my window to find out what it is. Some people wanted to sit in it at gas stations. The fact that I love the car didn't help shorten the conversations either.
I'm your average 6' American, slightly claustrophobic, and used to driving a Chevy Suburban. Finding a fuel efficient Japanese made vehicle that I could comfortably sit into with enough headroom to keep on my fedora was amazing. I'm still thinking about removing the rear seats and manufacturing a cargo bed in the back, but the rear passengers are always totally amazed at how much room they have in the back of such a small vehicle that I keep putting it off.
I believe my first words were, upon seeing the vehicle: "Damn, that's an ugly car." Immediately upon sitting down into the vehicle and looking around I said, "Damn, I'm gonna buy an ugly car." I wouldn't have it any other way. I've converted so many who dislike the asthetics of the vehicle but adore it's function and the benefits of it's design.
Honestly, I think the fact that so many find it asthetically displeasing actually makes me like it more. :) Their vainity forces them to be unable to benefit from such an amazingly well designed vehicle.

If you ever get a chance, sit in the rear seat of one. You'll see what I mean.
Ironically, now that I'm in the city and going to the local university, I spend more time on my 21 speed than in the Scion.
