Comcast Rant
Wow, I do not know what to say.....
I have had comcast for years now and I had little in the way of problems, but I think my days with them are coming to an end.
I am paying for a crapload of stuff, HD, premium channels, strongest internet, etc..
For the past week I have had almost NO internet connectivity. Had a tech come out here when it was working and he could not find anything wrong with it. Called support they could not find anything worng with it..
When they walk out the door, within a freakin hour it craps out for at least 24 hours at a time!
All i get for having NO internet service for 7 days is a damn 12.00 credit? I have a friggin IP phone, I was ALSO without phone for a week.
I hate to say it, but I am really close to getting direct TV and moving back to a dsl line. Its one thing to have an outage for an hour, or even for 10 hours, but 1 fuggin week?!?!?!
That also bring up another issue, customer service. Where the hell is it anymore? I mean sure, having the onsite tech come out is nice, but hell, why not tell me there is an outage instead? I lost about 20+ hours of work because of this. I asked them if they could bounce my modem, they did not even know what that meant! Hell the tech support line is a bag of shit stuffed in a waste of skin. They do not support jack these days. All they do is hear a person speak, do NO support, and set you uo for a service call.

So...you relied on internet for phone....thats pretty bad... You have to have a fast internet for VOIP else you would lag so bad wouldnt be playable on games. Cable shares a line with everyone else in your area...so say for instance me, my friend, and his friend, had your same service and were in the area...and we all constantly maxed the connection by dling torrents...you would have crappy phone service and wouldnt really be able to play online. I personally rather have a dedicated line for internet and a seperate for phone because of the issue you are speaking of. I agree with go back to dish (better picture) and to a regular phone line and dsl so you wont have to deal with if you have no internet, you will atleast have a phone to yell at them bastards.

I see your point, but prior to the issue, my bandwidth more than exceeded the necessary speeds for Voip. I get about 19 down and 1000 up. I have used VOIP for a few years now and never had any issue with cable dropping calls. Hell in fact, I used to handle phone calls while my wife was playing 2142, and many other online games and never noticed any drop in performance with regards to VOIP.
However, I do agree that I should not rely on a crappy service. Cable is not really that different than DSL these day, at least when you are in a good grid. The problem with this is Adelphia recently let all of there lines and hubs go to hell in my area because they went broke. Comcast is trying to upgrade everything, but not really doing a great job at it.
I am very close to getting DSL, but I am going to call comcast 1 last time and discuss getting a business line. From what I understand a business line would be a possibility for me as I do quite a bit of business from home.

Ive always had problems with cable companies. They give crappy service for a high premium and their support sucks balls. Since I switched to att and dishnetwork, quick service from both, low costs and no problem with connections. It costs 19.99 for the dsl, (2nd from lowest speed), dish is 19.99 a month but locked into a contract. And dont know how much is paid for phone. Bottom line, cheaper and better to go this way if you can (if offered in your area).
Yes, agreed grid line is everything. My friend was living in apartments and he had dsl and would only get 2mb down and like 1.5 up, and when he moved to housing, both tripled. We both were shocked it went that high. So it really depends on where you are.

That is a good idea. Last chances sometimes gets them to get in gear...but if they have already gone to hell, it would be useless.
Btw adelphia was bought out by time warner, so they have to transition to their stuff...so I dont think they mean to go crappy with their services.

toetag, i had the same exact thing happen to me. This lady came to my house to fix the tv, she found the problem for that (My cable got chewed by my hamster.. ha.) She took out the cable and just left me to put in the new one. Another thing she did, was that she played with the pole outside and she completely messed up the internet plus the phone line. So we didn't have internet or phone for like a week... Great service.
