People have their computers set to wrong time so often that the accuracy of sender datestamps is a joke anyways. If you need to verify the email date, look at the full headers of the email and the first gateway header there that you can trust. To fake a date on email, you only need 'telnet' and to read some documentation.. oh that's the hard part.
I think this is a good move from google to introduce average users to the harsh reality that the dates on emails cannot be trusted unless you know where to read the headers. Nice educational idea.
.. and especially nice that it gets the added coverage of april fools day.
