So this guys in our server right now and he was just using a basic soundboard to annoy us. Nicest hacker ever...

...Regardless he had a nice client where you couldnt bann him or mute him etc.
He told me theres some things with our server that makes us a nice little target.

Our teamspeak server is publically displayed on some list...
We have 500 slots... i've never seen more then 50 players on our ts at one time. Apperently this is spammer heaven.
I guess our teamspeak server is easier to hack because we don't have the most updated version running
and the most basic one our server isnt password protected. (the hacker said it didnt matter kuz he could get the password but its a good deturant for most people)

Also he told me that he could get teichs password in a matter of 10 mins then ban all of us.

He could be full of shit on that one but i highly doubt it. When getting passwords with a program, all you need is time. A quick fix but not complete fix for that is that the SA's have longer passwords.

He also told me that they're are clients that manage spambots and send out auto bans with out anyone being in the server.

Anyway, this guy was probally the coolest hacker i've seen but i think we should do a little work on the ts. I'll help as much as i can in finding auto bans commands and stuff for you guys tomorrow, only if you'd like.

wow you think we dont think of this from day to day we find new ways to rid them they find new ways to go around them pass word are coded and its diffi for them to get it the only way for them to get it is if someone tells them like thats going to happen team speak is okay its the jerks out there that arent but your doing good rem dont worry about looking for the admin stuff trust me it changes every day and its hard to keep up with

It would be extremely difficult for any hacker to get any SA passwords on our TS server. Cannon put this info into an encrypted SQL database. The default install of TS puts this info into a SQL 'lite' database which is not very secure. That's why this dipshit thinks he can get passwords.

The real problem is the security of TS, not us. It sucks. Forget the rest of the bullshit he said Rem. The only way to keep these dumbasses off the server is to password it. But this is a public TS server. It doesn't make sense to password it because anyone can come to the forums and get the password if they really want it. I see what you're saying but we can't lock everyone out.

Most of these guys aren't hackers. They are 14 year old script kiddies who learned their 'skills' from some cheat forum. I bet most of them are dumber than a box of rocks in real life. I don't know about you, but the last thing I think of doing on a Friday night is harrassing people on a TS server. Talk about not having a life right?

More specifically I think the security problem with TS is the client version, if when I try to mute a player it complains about something illegal instruction or whatever, it means the client is buggy and potentially ready for intrusion attacks even. Something like invalid data in some part of the feed he is able to inject to the stream or metadata or something. The client needs an update but seems not to be maintained any more.. uh if that was open source we could fix that.

well tho it may be hard to steal an SA's password i could see how it could be possible with programs. i have one which shall remain nameless that i use to get into my accounts when i forget the password and it only takes 34 seconds for it to break my codes.

(the reason i dont want to say the name is because i dont want potential hackers to look it up)

i have only used this program for my password protected stuff in windows but i could see how it could have potential for online use...

lots of people know the name of it... hell i do. thats what he was talking about doing. is using one of hes programs. he said it take about 10 mins to do so. because the passwords are better encrypted like horse said they were it would take much longer. plus i'm sure their passwords are long and not easy like skippy or somthing stupid.
