NinjaServe.org BF2 Ground Pounder's Server @ 66.235.160.38
Hey folks, I'd like to invite you to take place in a little experiment. Cannon took down the BF2 demo server(sorry, nobody was playing on it) and in it's place has put up another BF2 retail server. This one is slightly different than the current retail server we're running. The amount of players has been dropped to 32, but the map size is for 16.
Why are we only using a 16 player map? Well we want to see how the gameplay will be with less vehicles and less flags. We're thinking that this might make for some really intense ground pounding combat. Or it could be that this is a really dumb idea that will plunge the server into chaos and anarchy. Who knows?
So if you're a grunt who prefers waging warfare in a mostly ground combat based environment, join up on that server and lets see what happens. Your comments are always appreciated.

Played a couple rounds and it was really fun. It'll be more fun when map switches stop causing game crashes, but I guess that'll be fixed in time. Much better without people sitting around waiting for vehicles to spawn or base camping.

sorry the server kept crashing everyone to desktop. that was totally unexpected. i should have gotten on there and tested it out before i made the announcement.
i too enjoyed the 2 maps i played. i think having the server set this way has potential. of course we'd need to run through the maps a few times to see how they are with this config.
for now we've turned off punkbuster on that server as that might be what the problem is. now it'll be really hard to get people on that server because everyone's server filters are set to filter out non punkbuster servers by default. supposedly the crash at map changes is known issue for 32bit Linux servers and there might be a fix in the next patch. we'll see.
i haven't been able to test the server to see if it still crashes at map change. if anyone gets on there and still gets CTD'ed, let me know please. don't forget to unfilter non punkbuster servers to find the Ground Pounder.

I don't know if there are any cheats out there yet for BF2, I suppose there can/could be by now.. With any new game that has had a demo.. By using the Demo as a guide. It does not take long for the a$$es out there to come up with a way to make up for their lesser skills..
We will just have to watch for any REALLY odd things. These days, I can't imagine why anyone would need any kind of radar or map hacks.. As with the commander mode.. You can see anyone anywhere at anytime (as long as the stuff is up and running on your side). Good communication will prevail.
In any case... We will have to watch. Hopefully, we will be able to get PB to work properly on the server soon.

the server is temporarily fixed! it shouldn't crash any more between rounds(other server crashes are still expected from the buggy server code). stats will be missing at the end of the round, that's all.
frag you guys on there later. thanks Locutus.

wooooot, can't wait to get back on just have to say this was an ingenious idea. Not only is it more fun but it really brings more focus on teamwork because all the pubbers who just like to dink around in vehicles well not all people who use vehicles are like that I'm just saying that it weeds out more of the not so team oriented players and I found it to be a ton of fun.
