What are your guys thoughts on AdSense ads?
Just wanted to get your guys opinion on possibly adding some Google AdSense ads to the forums and site as a way to generate some free income to go towards the site and everything else.
I don't want to turn Ninjaserve into some ad plastered site, but a couple here and there might work to our advantage.
Haven't even had a chance to see what Horsepower thinks of it yet, so it's a new idea to everyone...

actually this is what i wanted Packet to do a long time ago. remember when we turned the word filter on? Google has to crawl the site looking for bad words and content they don't like.
i don't mind so long as the ads are small and out of the way. running this site and gameservers takes money. anything that could put a dent in the bills is ok, so long as it's in good taste and form.

Thats my main concern and goal. I don't want to turn us into a big billboard, cause I personally don't like sites that do that myself...

Yuck
I voted no.
Just my opinion of course, but I think it would not be the best thing to do.
What kind of ads would be running? i.e gaming related ads?

IMO iy doesn't matter what kind of ads it is, it could be porn as far as I'm concerned. What I am concerned about though is the question about google require that we need to cencur all "bad" words? Like won't I be able to write **** anymore?
Edit: Obviousley not

Lets say someone is reading the servers thread. Within that server thread, ad sense is running. This is a gaming webiste talking about servers (in that thread anyway). You look to the left and hey, johns ultra cheap bf2 server hosting has an ad there.
Or, lets say that a relevant ad is up for a gaming community. That might take some people away?
I am not sure how adsense works, but I would think because google runs it, it is more than likley based on relevant keywords that is found withing the content of the webiste it is running on.
If that is the case, then people may come to this message board and post about what is the most affordable game server out there and then johns ultra cheap game server hosting ad is within sight.
I like the idea of making money for the community, but I think that adsense may take away more than the initial first glance.
Then, what about click fraud?
Example,
Johns ultra cheap hosting has an ad here and haxor22 got banned for cheating or whatever on a server hosted by ninjaserve. Then comes here starts looking around and says, hey i know a little about ppc (pay per click) i know if i click on that ad a bunch of times, someone is gonna pay for it. So lets say he clicks for 20 minutes, that 20 minutes cost about 20.00. Johns ultra cheap host company looks in their adsense account and notices that a 20 minute clicking spree just cost him 20.00. He gets mad, and has to go in to log files etc....and submit that to googles click fraud team. I do not know if this is how it works or not, but if i was a webmaster and say click fraud coming from a specific domain, i would do and try what ever i could to make that domain where the click fraud occured, responsible to a certain degree, such as paying for it, or submitting log files with IP addresses. Would you guys want to do that?
Sure it is a worst case scenario, but it is something to consider.

i personally censored that word due to overuse on the board. using it once in a while to make a point, fine. but it was getting out of control and being used to the extreme.
good points Toejam. click fraud does occur, and the thing about the server ads is definately something that should be considered. we want Cannon to get all the hits possible from this site.

Why not host some comps for the games he hosts and offer blah blah blah, then pay 80.00 to prweb amd get indexed on yahoo news, google news and so on.
Yes, its 80.00, but he we would get the traffic and new members that would like to donate to us, and he could be the place for server rentals.
Just my thoughts, but i think that would work.

With AdSense, you do have the ability to filter some things, such as phrases. It does run off content keywords however, but as far as 'the competition's' links/ads getting in there, you can control that pretty well.
Mind you this is just an idea/experiment... We'll see how it goes
