I made the mistake of allowing the update to download before joining the WC3 server. Now I can't join because the server hasn't got the update yet. Just letting you guys know...

just out of curiousity, is there a reason the server doesn't use auto-update? it's a simple switch to add to the launch string. I know some hosting company have control over this part and do it for their own reasons (ie: updating multiple boxes at the same time w/o wasting bandwidth downloading it for all of them).

Even so, if you use autoupdate, I still have yet to see an instance where the server doesn't still need a restart once it's done. Also, there are some files that will get overwritten during a steam update (motd.txt, etc) any time there is an update.

i'll take ur word for it. I think you can make the files read-only and they should be ok, as for the restart i think that happens automatically. Lots of servers use auto-update with no problems. if it's not automatic, not sure about windows, but linux should be able to use a script. i know with windows u load the server as a service and anytime it shutsdown it'll reload. been a while since i played with a dedicated server so u'd know better then me. i don't see why they'd make an auto-update that was useless, but valve has been known to do some strange things.
anyways u guys do a good job gettin it back up so it's no big deal.
