plus... there are lots of web bots that try to create accounts and crawl on forums.

Even the search engine spiders are considered visitors, and there are times when you could have 20+ spiders from say Google or Yahoo crawling your site.

bots create accounts only thru vulnerabilities... keep your forum software updated.
Spiders don't usually exist in those large quantities...

We haven't had any bot spam here in I don't know how long...They also create accounts where CAPTCHA is weak very easily. There are many 'bot' packages out there to do just that, spam forums.

And Yahoo at least tends to crawl with multiple spiders...

we haven't had one bot. we had some asshole register and then spam racisim and other obscene things here once or twice but not a bot. We've had a few bots on the Nsn website tho. good times kuz i had much fun before someone banned em.

The nsn forum gets tons of false/spam accounts... believe me! I'm the one who filters through the accounts and deletes them when they "register."
