Looking for secure fileshare program

I need a secure client to client filesharing program. My fiance's office was destroyed, so the boss is working from his home, and my fiance is working from mine. They need to be able to browse the other's harddrive to retrieve files. It needs to be secure, easy for a couple of noobs to figure out and needs to work on XP as well as Win98. Only things I am finding are client-server apps. Any ideas?

I use Serv-U which is a secure ftp program, and is real simple to use.

yeah. kinda figured i'd go with ftp. i just don't want to confuse her boss with ip redirect software(he's on aol) and server + client ftp software. i guess i'll just have to bite the bullet and give him lessons unless someone has a better solution.

Don't know much about it, but would a VPN (Virtual Private Network) "??tunnel??" work here?

or is that what your asking for?

nah, don't need to have a VPN. i don't need that much security. basically i'm looking for a simple program that can allow 2 computers to browse each others harddrive over the internet.

VPN would actually be ideal, but not easy for a layman to setup - pptp is natively in windows xp. Go with FTP.

Depends on how much security is needed. FTP transmits in clear text making usernames, passwords, and data readable by anyone with a packet sniffer. Without having to spend money on a commercial product, SFTP will probably be your safest bet since the packets can be encrypted.

Just make sure you follow the setup directions exactly. SFTP can be a pain to setup sometimes.

If you use serv-u, and a client like cute-ftp or just an IE browser window, it is pretty simple.
