Packetloss
Packetloss,
I'm referring to you becuase you're who my clan member has talked to. I have some questions for you about the servers before I get one and we were really hoping to get it kicked off tonight ( Fri.). I know it's extremely late but if your still on I need to talk to you on your TS. Just look for me on there and you will see me. If it waits until tomorrow I don't know when I can be on. I have a LAN party ( with one of my bosses ) to attend so....
It's basically questions about what I may or may not be able to do ( performance wise ) on these servers. Nothing illegal or anything. I just wanna know what I can expect outta what I want to do with a server. Whether or not it can do what I want and still remain within the bandwidth, and such. just general stuff like that.

Uh, then ask them. It's probably ideal if you ask them here. I really dont like to be a sysadmin while i play on ts2, so forums are best.

OK.
1 What I'm looking at is running 1 32 man BF server. 1 10 man AA server. A TS Clan server. And would like to run a Private FTP server. Also possibly a 32 man BFV server at a later date. I'm looking at the Gamers Server. What's the likelyhood of running over my bandwidth limit with all that?
2 What kind of connection to the server do we have to set everything up?
3 Do you already have the server files for BF'42 and AAO, so that your Co. can get the Servers going or do we have to do that ourselves? It's something I've never actually done myself and don't really know what I'm doing on that part.

Ok - First things first. Do i make money from you? No. Is this my company selling you a server? No. Do *I* professionally supply any support or services? no.
All this said, here's your answers:
1. Bandwidth - thats a hard question. If you run a 32 player server, and you dont have any players on it, it wont use any bandwidth. If you run an ftp site for trading porn, you'll gobble it up.
I say you can safely run 32 player + 10 player AAO, and TS2, and probably not go over your limit - Watch your first month carefully to be sure of the usage.
2. Kind of connection to set everything up? Im not sure what you mean. The box is connected to the net, and runs an sshd server - You ssh in, configure your games, and off to the races you go.
3. These boxes are 100% unmanaged - The most work someone at the company will do is reinstall the OS - I'd be willing to set your box up once.
Game server files are fairly trivial to get - there are distribution sites out there. Do i centralize them? No, i have fileplanet for that - I'd get them for you if i setup your box for you.

That's cool. That being the case, I'm gonna go ahead and go for now. I will probably get on in a couple of hours to try to link up with you again if you can. I still haven't found where on the site to actually "Order" the server. All I've found is where to apply for notification when ones ready but that's without specifying what OS or payment option. Am I just missing it or does all that come after they get one ready?

Hey Packet this guy running on 15 minute? If so you aren't going to be able to run all of those apps on the server.
Currently NS is running a 26 player BF:V ToD server and a 32 Player BF:42 GC server and are hitting at about 80-90% CPU usage when full. Memory usage is about 14%, and oddly enough the 42 server uses more CPU resources than the BF:V server (makes not sense but it uses about 50 and the BF:V only uses about 30-40).
As for bandwidth you have a Terrabyte a month. A BF:42 32 player server uses right around 250 meg as does the BF:V servers (don't know about AA, TS or the like). Alot of usage is bandwidth choke dependent and the kind of connections you get. On BF:42 and Vietnam if you leave your choke settings to Lan/T1 and have people connecting with high speed conections (and I MEAN High Speed, like Packet playing at the office) you can go through 650 meg inside of 2 weeks because they'll grab as many connections to the box as possible. Also keep in mind every FTP transaction and every html hit uses bandwidth as well.
You have a SSH connection to the server to set everything up. Connect up with a program like Putty or the like.
Note this is from my views owning and operating the HR 15 Minute servers which runs 2 offshoot NS servers. These words are just my views and are no way directly the views of the NS operators/owners or Packet himself.
Also Packet may have the files himself, but I've found it's generally better to set it up yourself as you get a far greater education on the matter. Trust me, after Packet set my BF:V server up the first time I have actually regretted it and rebuilt it a couple of times myself because him doing it all results in me not learning anything. If something goes wrong and he is not around it means we're SOL in terms of the server. Do you have anyone in your group that knows Linux? If not I suggest picking up "The Complete Reference" and "Linux in a Nutshell" and googling up the various server forums out there for your choosen game to get a grasp on it. Taking your time to set it up right yourself is FAR more beneficial than letting others do it for you. Not saying any of us won't help, but it generally looks good when the basics are already covered and attempts have been made to resolve the problem first hand so we know what has and has not been done.
Oh and you can't order because they are out of them. All have already been bought/leased.

sure - AAO barely touches cpu - as does ts2 - The cpu gobbler is bf - Ftp and http are minimal daemons. Hed have no problem with ts2 + 10 player AAO + bfv, imho. I didnt notice the bfv + bf42.
Anyways, im at the datacenter today, i doubt ill be home till later this evening...

Well, I guess it's all a moot point now anyway, since they're all taken. I appreciate all the help anyway. Thanx guys.
