Actual PC

Instead of just dreaming about putting together a new computer and putting 8 7800's with 8gigs of RAM i decided to actually put together one.

Here are the stats I need analized to make sure Ill be ok:

http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16811208008

http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813131564

http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16814130263

http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16820220066

I would also be using my 2 other hard drives and my P4 3.4ghz processor.

Only thing im wondering about is what size power supply do i need and if i could reuse my older one which i think is either 400w or 450w.

Need to know the amps on the PSU.

As for the hardware, you may one to think about a 6800GS over just a 6800. Also, be aware of the problems with the Nforce4. If you can avoid them, it's a good chipset.

You may want 2 gigs of memory too.

what are the issues with NF4 chipset? i'm considering going AMD soon, but AMD chipset support is the number 1 reason why i went to Intel for my last build. performance is nothing without stability.

I was going to go with the GS but i have a vanilla 6800 and the GPU on the gs is different than my card. It woudlnt work SLI then. And about the RAM, I would get more ram later, right now i dont have an extra 100$.
But Im starting a sign-up sheet at my school for people that would pay for me to shave my head.(as i have a fro) Ive already got some interest with abouty 20$

never mind i switched to another case that comes with a 450w power supply. so i think im pretty much set unless someone sees a problem with compatability.

horsepower, there are very few nforce issues
(mainly issues with top end harddrives)

consider this...
http://www.geek.com/news/geeknews/20...1215033811.htm

it kinda explains how intel is perpetually driving itself into the ground..

as far as dual core benchmarks...they speak for themselves...the x2 4400 blows the top dual core intel out of the freakin water! partly because intel played catchup for the last 2 cores (ee and dual core) so intel virtually slapped two cores together..amd did it right - with the crossbar and integrated mem controller.

(benchmarks between intel/amd dual core
http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-10442_7....html?tag=lnav )

best thing to do is look at your budget for your processor, then look at the benchmarks for comparable priced proccessors

i don't really care about dual cores. it's so overhyped. the average gamer will hardly ever take full advantage of it. maybe if i edited video files for a living or dvd authored frequently i would care.

this computer i'm on right now was the first intel system i built. everything i built before was AMD. not one of those AMD systems ran as smooth or was even remotely close as to the stability of this one. this is what i'm fighting with as i try to decide if i really want to make another attempt at building an AMD box. the AMD performance looks nice, but it doesn't mean squat if the computer is not as rock solid as this one.

Sorry I didn't respond earlier. Ok, not sure Intel is running itself into the ground, just it's desktop cores. (Things will turn around with conroe) As for Dual Cores being over hyped, I've used them and they multi-task far better than any HT or single core does. Now if your only playing games, than it may be a waste, but then again, my friend was running Doom 3 and Age of Empires 3 at the same time and then some. Ok, now for Nforce 4 problems:

X-FI compatability-They don't get along. Bonez said he thinks this has been fixed, but I can't verify that.
Active Armor: Uh, just don't use it.
Nvidia Drivers: Once again, don't touch them. Just install the Marvell Yukon driver and that is it. Use the Windows drivers for everything else.
Also, no SATA CD drives, you are just asking for trouble.

After building two AMD systems, no stability issues. (sadly, one exception, yesterday my friends computer randomly rebooted twice. No malware, but Windows seems to think it may be the sound card. Weird, since it hasn't done it at all in 30 days. Oh well... I will be updating the sound driver today.)

Also, stock heating works wonders and you can do a 20% OC with stock cooling! When I had Intel stock cooling it wasn't good enough at stock speeds.

That's all the info I have HP, hope it helps.

X-Fi, they work fine, even before i put the updated Bios on the board.
AA works really good, and takes next to no memory.
Nvidia drivers in general are good, the Lan controller sucks.
Also, depending on how updated your system is in terms of controllers.

the whole issues seem to be with the Deluxe board or standard SLI board(as well as the 32 is having some issues but it just came out), that's what i keep saying skip them and go to the premium because most if not all of the issues are solved.
