Gaming on a wireless router

Anyone here game while using a wireless router? My wired Linksys took a shit a few months back. Now that I've got a static IP, I need another NAT router. There's a good possiblity I'll be buying a house in the next few months. So, to save some wiring time at my future new house, I am considering buying a router that has a 4 port switch for my current 10/100 network, but is also wireless capable for my future place.

Here's what I'm looking at... http://www.linksys.com/products/prod...id=35&prid=601

So, would my online gaming be affected using a wireless connection?

Feel free to chime in here Packet. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I've often wondered about the same thing. Would like to hear some thoughts on this as well.

I have a Cisco set up a, an Aeronet 350 card in my main machine at 11 mips and a AIR-AP340 access point sending signal to my other machine through a AIR-PC1340 card after 3 pm every day I got the whole T-1 to myself :beerchug: . I am 1.5 blocks from the main transmitter and even during peak usage times I do better than most DSL connections. Problem I have is my (in house) set up takes a crap on me all the time for no apearent reason. My main machine stays connected and I have signal to my others but cant pull any pages then suddenly it will start working

By the way did I mention I love these smiley faces

The only time I notice any lag is when I am playing and my son is playing on the other machine in the same game or if I host a game on one and play on the other, but since I am at 512 mb ram in both it may be a memory issue

if you allready have the wiring you could just swap out the router get the wireless and just run cabled on the wireless and disable the acess point, but that would defeat the purpose of wireless. if you had people coming over to lan or had a laptop with wireless it would make more sence. if you go full wireless go the wireless g standard 5x faster then the wireless b (g = 54mbs b = 11mbs) other then that don't know

other then that avoid dlink

I use a wirelss network in my home, in point of fact I use the very 4-port that you are considering, it works pretty well for me. Though i too have noticed that if two comps on my network enter the same game i get a bit higher ping....doesn't really effect game play and I don't have the problem of it randomly crapping out on me but then i am using all lyinksys equipment, and yea G totally runs faster than B...In the long run it seems to have been cheaper than our old wired network not to mention easier, but the first few days of working it all out and becoming framilar with the methods was a bit interesting Though wired has always delivered a lower ping, not enough to really matter but still lower, hope this was of some assistance to you.

My brother uses wireless. He has problems running BF:V though. His specs. ATI 7600 64bit,(something close to that) Pentium 3 1 Ghz, 512 RAM. He has no problems with BF 1942. So, you should be fine.

Wire to the pc, wireless to the laptop. Don't **** around. Anyone mention .11g likes to go half duplex a lot? Works fine for surfing the web and some voip calls, but you're talking about gaming. Running for a flag, killing 3 guys, just about to cap it, and the lady next door picks up her panasonic phone to call her kid at his job at dairy queen and....CONNECTION INTERRUPTED

2.4ghz is a standard on cordless phones. you do have the option of changing channels on both the phone and router.

i bought it knowing this and some other wireless quirks. i got it on Sunday. i decided to go ahead and get it because it does have the 4 port switch. the game machine will wired and always be near the router. the other systems will be wireless.
