whats best for gaming

Im a little confused about refresh rates, i have options from 800x600@60Hz thru 1280x1024@75Hz I havent noticed much difference from 800x600 or 1280x1024, what is the difference and what is a good setting for gaming? I have noticed @60Hz its blurry and 75Hz isnt but what is a good setting is it just the higher the better? I am using a 19" LCD with anolog. I also have DVI option but can only use 60Hz refresh rate would this be better than using anolog @75Hz? I should mention that my native setting 1280x1024 but the only difference i see is the tags are so small i cant read them but the game looks the same size.
Thank you

For my CRT I use 75MHz (my monitor's max). It's easy on the eyes.

"Similarly, display monitors must be refreshed many times per second. The refresh rate for a monitor is measured in hertz (Hz) and is also called the vertical frequency, vertical scan rate, frame rate or vertical refresh rate. The old standard for monitor refresh rates was 60Hz, but a new standard developed by VESA sets the refresh rate at 75Hz for monitors displaying resolutions of 640x480 or greater. This means that the monitor redraws the display 75 times per second. The faster the refresh rate, the less the monitor flickers."

anything below 70hz will cause stress on your eyes. you can tell when a CRT monitor's refresh rate is set too low. turn your head and look at the screen fron the corner of your eye. if the refresh rate is set too low you will see the screen flickering. i have a 21" CRT and use 1024x768@85hz refresh rate. higher resolutions make everything look too small for me.

i don't know too much about about LCD's but i've heard that you should use the native resolution.

depends on the resolution, remember i run 2048x1536@60hz, and i can(and have) stared at it for hours on end without strain.

60hz refresh rate is 60hz refresh rate and it is perceptible to the human eye. the flickering is what strains your eyes. the resolution makes no difference Bonez. maybe it bothers you, maybe it doesn't, but the fact is that it is recomended that you run 70hz or higher to avoid flickering.
