Audio Issue with BF2
For some reason when I play bf2 I will randomly get an odd crackling noise that won't go away no matter what i do to the audio settings, I recently switched to an xfi card which after install seemed to solve the problem but than sure enough it was doing it again this morning, this never happened until i upgraded my mobo/cpu, also all other applications and games audio is great so I'm sorta confused and my drivers are all up to date.

yea, I realized my motherboard has a built in audio system that a lot of reviews say causes mass problems and I also realized it was still enabled so I disabled it and now bf2 seems to sound fine thanks so much for the tips though guys and I needed to dust out the compy anyway heh

I have the same prob. SB audigy z...once in a while (ever few days) there will be some kind of exact combo of sounds (arty, explosions, gun firing) that causes the sound card to lock up and play a horrible screech combined w/ a run through of all game sounds. The only way to recover is to power off. There are a lot of ppl w/ this prob. I have switched the pci slots, disabled onboard audio and made sure it has it's own irq...
IF that openal solution works i will be so happy...

I've completely wiped out all creative audio files and only installed the latest drivers for my sound card and bf2 sounds great....than I reboot and bam distortion is back clear as day
