Connect3d fan?
I have a ATI Connect3d x800gto about 5 months old and I think the stock fan may be wearing out already. Shouldn't it last longer than this? I will admit I wasn't smart and used to leave the fanspeed override on 100% all the time, but now every few hours it will start making a loud noise and take a few love taps on the case to get it to stop (or rebooting). Is there any harm in letting it just run until it dies and buy an aftermarket fan? Or is this a problem I should address soon?
Also, just wondering what a good GPU temperature is. The reason I have the fan override 100% is cause without it, even if I set it to keep the card under a certain temp, whenever it goes over it only turn the fan up to 75%, which doesn't do much. Without the fan override the GPU rises to around 72 degrees celcius while playing, and resting at about 45C. With the fan override I still reach the mid 60's. Is this too hot? I read that the stock fan on this card isn't the greatest and I'm not sure what kind of temp it should be running at.
Note: One of my big problems is the Case is in a desk with not much breathing room and one vent about 5x5". I leave the door open most the time but every once in a while it gets shut, and just after a couple hours it already has the card resting at 51C. :-/

contact the manufacturer for a new fan if it's still under warranty.

Okay well after I posted this thread it stopped doing it, but now it is almost all the time. There is a kind of constant rattling coming from somewhere inside my case. I have the case open right now and I can't find where it's coming from. It's not the CPU fan, power supply, hard drive, either dvd drive, or the graphics card which is what I first thought it was. I'm stumped, nothing is loose and its not any of the fans.
Edit: I posted a minute too soon, I took it over to the table and started eliminating things and found what it is. I guess it's time for a new power supply.
I'm looking around at power supplies, I have yet to build a computer so I don't know what connectors work for what. I have a P4, DVD-Rom drive, DVD burner, 1 SATA hard drive, and my graphics card that need power. What connectors would these each be considered? I want to make sure I have enough. The two PS I'm looking at have different connectors. One has : 1x 20+4 pin, 1x 12v, 6x peripheral, 2x floppy. The other has 1x 20+4 pin, 1x 12v, 3x peripheral, 1x SATA, 1x Floppy.

(I'm a little short on money so I need to go pretty cheap)

it is possible to replace the PSU fan, but u have to be VERY careful. even when it's not plugged in, there are components in there that could give you a bad shock. it can be dangerous.

Yeah I don't really feel like going into the power supply, and it's only a 350W that came stock with the computer, so I'm gonna guess it's probably not worth it.

well that depends. you can get fans under $10, but if you're going to get a decent quality PSU, it can be much more than the price of a fan. planning on upgrading your system sometime soon? you'll probably need a bigger PSU like Taz said.

What kinda fans do you put in it? Do you just pick up certain size fan and it fits, or does it have to be made for the power supply?
The next upgrade I would do would be a better sound card and I don't think that would draw that much more power.
Edit: I would just rather run to compusa, circuit city, radioshack, etc. tomorrow and replace it instead of having to wait a few days for one to come in the mail. Would I be able to pick up a fan for the psu there?

Some PSU fans have clips for power, some do not.
It should be 6 screws to take the cover off and 4 more for the fan..
The fan size I think is either 80mm or 120mm. You can buy one of the pretty ones with L.E.D's in it if you like.
At anyrate. A new PSU can cost up to 200$ + if you get one that's modular and high wattage.
A reg 450-500 W shouldnt run you more than 120$.
www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1543967&CatId=0 .. this is a 600W for 110$ Canadian $
