Wireless set up
I am currently at my mother's work, and she recently purchased SBC DSL. It came with a wireless modem, but I can't seem to get it to work wirelessly. It works Ethernet, but once i unplug that and connect wirelessly, it has a "Very Godd" connection, but no programs can use it. I've had this problem on this computer before and can't remember how I fixed it. Is there configuration that needs to take place in IE or Mozilla?

well last I checked if you're using the 2wire modem that has wireless built in you need to put in the number from the sticker on the bottom of the modem, near the barcode.

I believe it's this modem. http://www.cablemodeminfo.com/2Wire1...eview.html-ssi
I'm using a Dell wireless card that came with the laptop. (I think it's a 802.11g/b)
Another thing that kept happening, I had the connection to the modem, and suddenly it would drop and pick up the eye doctor connection that is next door. I know the card works because I can use the eye doctor's connection, the café's, and others.

Nope. I don't have wireless at home so I never had to set that up. All we need to do is get online with it, the business is just a salon with one computer, so I don't need a wireless network between pc's, just one laptop on the internet connection. It probably doesn't help that I wasn't there when my mother tried doing it herself. I just don't understand how it has a good connection to the modem but doesn't get any internet. If it can get it through Ethernet off the same modem, then the modem is installed on the laptop...

From what i see you might need to buy a
Linksys Wireless Router and connect it to your Modem
in order for it to work, because your modem does not have wireless
capabilities. but that's my perspective.

couple of things. if the modem/router is using encryption, you need to get the key and enter it into that wireless router's connection profile on the laptop. also, disable all firewalls and see if that works. get the instructions for the router, set everything back to default and install it all from the beginning. it's probably just a setting you missed.

No one listens to me do they? haha my first post said if you have a 2wire(which is the one he picture and yes it does have built in wireless so don't waste money on a router haha) than you need to use the number from the bottom of the modem, and enter it as the wep key, I used to have sbc and a 2wire modem and for dsl it worked really well you just have to know their steps which i learned after many an hour of tech support. Im me anytime for help on that my xfire and all my messengers are listed on here
