Puppy help

Well, wasn't my idea, but last summer we got a male maltese from Brazil. Let's just say, learn from my experience, just because they're small doesn't mean they can't get in trouble. Theres some stuff I can expect and deal with while trying to teach him what's wrong(shredding toilet paper at every chance he gets etc), but other things just can't be right.

Does anyone have problems with their dog chewing on carpet? I don't know what it is, this dog is about 13 months old and likes chewing on the carpet. So far he has 2 holes, each about the size of a quarter in the carpet. He would have more, it's just those times he was unseen for a few minutes so he was able to get them started. I have googled help, and they say the dog is just bored and needs some chew toys. This dog is so spoiled hes got more toys than I had when I was a kid. He always has a few bones to chew on in his bed, so it's not that he doesn't have anything else to chew on. Just the other night the carpet was cleaned so there shouldn't be any food smell to it if food happened to be spilled there, yet just a couple minutes ago I looked back and he was sniffing and nibbling at a spot. I just don't know what to do!

Everytime I see him doing it I , he knows he's doing something wrong because he puts his head down, walks into his cage, and stares at you waiting for more.

Anyone have/had this problem any tips would help greatly.

Yeah if your dog is chewing on something you don't want him to, you have to immediately give it something else to chew on that is acceptable. We have a rawhide bone around for when he chews on furniture or starts biting us.

I feel this would work well, just replace "garbage can" with "hole in carpet."

The answer is simple. Install hardwood floors.

LOL... unfortunately... I have to resort to this thanks to my dog. Not only does he chew on the carpet, but he'll pull it up and chew on the foam underneath it too.

Pig ears do work really well though, BUT... and this is worse for the carpet, imo... they tend to give dogs the splatters (ungraphic and yet descriptive? I tried) if you give them out too often.

Though, it never even occured to me to give it to them immediately afterwards... now I just gotta catch the sucker!
