I don't really know what the problem is but my FIRST measure would be to take away your firewall. If you have a good antivirus program, you won't need any firewall, atleast I don't.

I haven't used a firewall for a whole year now, and I haven't got any bullshit on my computer so far.

You should see what my friends firewall can do to his computer. You really don't need it. I have Norton Anti-Virus and that should be all you need. (Though I do have a firewall in my router, it only gave me trouble once) So, I'd try to turn it off, but could you also elaborate more. Do you mean that when you type the IP in, it won't let you join or can't you see his server on the list of internet servers?

If you're going to run your computer without a firewall, make sure you keep your computer up to date with all the latest O.S. patches. A virus scanner cannot detect exploits run against your computer.

What type of firewall are you running?

Assuming you have a router/firewall.(d-link, netgear, linksys)...
Most consumer routers use stateful filtering, meaning they will only allow Internet traffic into your network, which originated in your network (ie.. response to a web page request). Most likely what's happening is that the connection requests from your friend are being dropped at the router since they didn't originate in your internal network. In order for him to be able to connect, you will need to open the specific port your friend needs to connect to from the outside interface, to the IP address of your internal server(not sure what is is for BF)

You have to have your router ports open. I don't know the exact ports but a range of about 14500 to 15000(UDP and TCP) should do it. I think they are like 145667 are near but I don't know the exact ones.
