Norton Anti Virus

Does anyone know if there's a large advantage/change for 2004 over 2003? I have 2003 and I can install as many times as I want and on 2 computers with no problem. I bought 2004 today for 9.99 but I'm reading now they authenticate with a server when you install so you can only install on 1 PC ( i have 2). I'm just wondering seeing as I can still get all the virus updates if there's a big difference from 2004 over 2003. Thanks.

I've had both. (just Norton Anti Virus) I'd just stay with 2003. The main difference is that 2004 can go after a very limited amount of spyware. Though if your getting it for 10.00, wouldn't it be cheaper to just get another 2004 because I think subscriptions are 20.00 dollars a year.

Well it's 10 after rebates that take 8 weeks. So I'm still forking out $50 initially.

So Trahn I can install 2004 on two machines?

I have Norton System Works 2004 on two machines...One is connected to the internet via cable (this one) and one I have that only occassionally connects via phone modem. Its on both of them and it appears to update on each.

The program runs on both machines and I don't see any problems with either..

Ask yourself this question.. how can they prevent you from doing it? Who is to say that you do not have 1 computer and can connect to the internet via different methods.. What unique identifier are they using to "track" your computer? The cd key you use will be the same in each machine. It will install.

What would happen if your harddrive crashed? You'd put in new one and reinstall the software...same deal.. if ur motherboard died.. you'd redo everything and continue on. I cannot see how there could be a prevention on number of installs. I know MS does it with windows, but you just call and get a new "key" each time.

Just try it.

I have 2004 and had 2001? before that. Where they get you is the automatic virus updates, which is subscription based and (in my case) expires every year. I've also had instances where I've had to start over from scratch on my computer and have had to contact Symantec to get my subscription working properly.

Well before 2004 to get around the subscription from expiring I would format my HD which I did anyway every 6-8 months. Everytime I did a fresh install Norton saw it as a new purchase so I had a year from that point on. Here's the info about 2004 from Norton's website:

The activation process requires a unique product key upon installing the software on a PC. Users who own a packaged product are required to enter the Product Key during installation. The product key is typically located on the back of the CD sleeve. The product key is automatically stored on the user’s machine as part of the download process.

www.mcafee.com - get a copy of the onliine scanner. Keep it on all computers and keep it up to date.

hhmm, that never worked for me, believe me I tried. Oh well
With the amount of virus infected emails I receive, I don't mind paying the yearly $20.00 for the subscription.
