post a traceroute from you to the server you are lagging on.

for Windows machines: start/run/type command/enter/type tracert <server IP without brackets> IE: tracert 198.77.7.4 (for EOD server)

when it's finished, right click, select "Mark". highlight and copy the results.

This report on the first hop out to the East Coast (between you and your ISP's network) looks like it's in-netwok on th tds.net end. Notice the route they have to the West coast is fine.

Fail:

First hop out on a tracert is is to your router(if you have one) then to your modem - the to your ISP gateway in then to your ISP gateway out. The report above is all internal ISP movement - looks like their headend or UBR equipment may have been having some difficulty. If it's still happening, you might want to call them and find out if they are doing maintenance on the equipment or something. I know when we are, we will move your connection to another card on the UBR so you wouldn't experiance any degradation in the service, but then we are an UBER ISP

On the West Coast test look at the "Worst" latency between you and your ISP and between your ISP and the next upstream router. It's in the 700's. This is much higher then the other hops. This is only one report so I would run several more and look to see if this is a trend. If so that maybe the problem. I also noticed that the "Avg" and "Best" for those hops are higher, in some cases much higher then the other hops.

In the description below they say "Next we ran two different hop by hop loss estimators, one from east coast, and one from west coast. These should reveal at what point there is packet loss between us and your PC... normally any loss is shown to be the fault of your ISP or its next upstream peer."

These numbers seem to bare that out. The thing is it could be your router also from what I'm seeing. You might want to check your cables. Reseat cables, make sure your not getting interference from other devices or other cables etc.

What type of broadband do you have? I'm sure you know with cable providers you have to share the local loop with other users in most cases. If you have cable try setting this test to run during the day or very early in the morning to see if the numbers change. I would do that even if you have DSL to get a better picture of the problem.

She'd be a catch Packet.. I've seen her picture.. One nice looking lady.

But.. I have ALSO seen "BIG DAN's" picture too.. Unless you be a pretty big boy, Packet.. I don't think Dan will let you steal her away..
