Plan on spending a lot of money for a laptop that will run BF2 effectively. You can get a gaming desktop for a lot less. Just wanted to make you aware of that.

just to let you in on my world heres my desktop specs....
Processor:AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3300+ ~ 2.4GHz
Memory:2.5GB RAM
Hard Drive:323 GB Total
Video Card:NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GS
Monitor:Samsung 19" Widescreen
Sound Card:Realtek AC97 Audio
Speakers/Headphones:Altec Lancing
Keyboard:Logitech G15
Mouse:Logitech MX518
Mouse Surface:QcK+ Mouse Pad (450mm x 400mm)
Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition SP2
my video card is in an agp 8x slot. pc 3200 for the ram.
I run bf2 at full settings.
Now you could make a gaming computer that out does mine for about 500 bux. Don't get a laptop that runs bf2. they're not worth it. i have one. its pretty much a stationary computer because if i take it off the charger the huge processor on it eats the batter within almost 2 hrs.
Get yourself a nice strong pc.

Don't quote me on it but I don't think the 8500GT is too good of a card. It'll run BF2.. but wouldn't really keep up with the newer games that are going to be coming out. Also for BF2 you want 2gb of ram. I only have 1.5gb and that's one thing that keeps me from playing, too much damn loading time.
Make sure you don't go AGP if you're going to spend money on a whole new PC. PCI Express is faster and easier to find cards for.
If I were to buy a budget friendly gaming pc any time soon I'd most likely find a Barebones deal at Tigerdirect here Is where I'd start, you'd still need a monitor though, so figure $150-$200 there if you want a decent 19" LCD. Find one without the OS included.. and you can buy a copy of XP! (And watch out.. some of those barebones come literally bareboned.. and others come with almost everything you need.)

i used to play bf2 at high graphics with 1 gig of ram, well not everything maxed out, but still it worked fine with 1gig , but of course 2 gigs will be great, and what's wrong with 8500 gt, its a pretty good video card to me, i have a 7950gT on my pc and i can run everything on high resolution and detail, i recommend 3.2ghz , 2 gigs of ram, and as for a video card i dont really know too many about 'em

The Dell Vostro was on sale for awhile for $549. You throw in the nvidia 8600 upgrade and it'll run BF2 fine.

I agree with Collector. He's got pretty much the same setup as me and I can run damn near everything and anything on Max.
You definitely want a PCI-Express video card. AGP is going to be a thing of the past.

Just do some research on the video cards. You may find that the 8600 isn't what you want. I was going to upgrade to one cuz they were cheap, but found out it wasn't a very good card. The 7900 series i believe kills it in performance. I don't have a link off-hand, but I believe toms hardware has a good comparison of cards, using different benchmarks.
