i dont know what to do. a "friend" of mine named reckah who i dont know invited me into a group called [H.A.C.K] in steam. its a steam group. he has been trying to get a hold of me when i wasnt around but i spoke to him today.

ok this is where it gets confusing. i start talking to him and he asks me if i hack.

im like - no.

then he wants me to go to a website vxchaos.official.ws

and i am like - what is it.

he is pressuring me and stuff politely

and im like what does it do?

he wont tell me just says just go.

im like - i barely know you you asked me if i hack and sorry im suspicious but hackers are tricksters and i dont know if you think i am one or you are one or if you are just being friendly.

he is like - its computer specs...

then i say - i know my specs.

he says - what are they

i tell him - athlon 64 2.0 ghz nvidia 7600gs

he asks if i have antivirus!

now im freakin out.

i tell him well yeah but i went to the site on ma laptop.

he asks what it is i say mcafee "lied"

he says mcafee huh?

i say yeah what do you want this for? the website didnt even work.

he asks me what kinda laptop i tell him - hp dv900 turion 64 2.2ghz 6150 go

he then says - right....

I didnt even go on my laptop but i google searched it on ma desktop to see what google got and it jumped right into a page that didnt work. then i asked my roommate to do it and it failed for him to. i went to proxify and disabled anything bad that could happen and it still failed.

i said - goodbye reckah
and removed him from my friends.

im afraid my computer may be compromised and i am doing virus and spyware scans now.

what do you guys think?

my roommate was like dont worry about it but this guy was asking sketchy questions.

i want to report him to valve and tell them about what happened. i dont know if he was an undercover or a hacker or a virus spreading deuche or even a virus writer but im nervous as hell.

Just some punk. don't wry if nothing happens within today or tomorrow ur fine. If ur that worried u can dl avg and spybot for viruses and such. Theres no way he can hack into ur computer unless he can access ur comp physically or if u have a live internet connection 24/7 with ur comp on. If thats the case I still find it hard to believe anything going to happen esp if the website failed. Esp the fact you live on campus and campus internet is guarded very tightly its basically really hard for a hacker to go hack into a college's network find ur specific comp and hack into it. Its not impossible but they'd have to be a pretty effen good hacker so good that messing with a person on steam is worthless to them.. Basically he was just effen with you.

You're fine. VX Chaos is a file server for all sorts of "black-hat" stuff. Just visiting the site won't harm you - it's designed to give out firewall and anti-virus killers, bruteforce cracking programs, trojans, etc. to people to use at their whim. It's not, however, designed to use any of it on the visiting user.

.WS sites are for the most part fine. They're commonly used to spread UnderGrounD stuff like serials, keygens, cracked programs, and the like.

You can sleep easy. I can guarantee you he's not good enough to break into the campus' network and hunt you down.

As long as he didn't actively browse the file server, then download a file himself, nothing would have downloaded to his computer.

And if for some reason you did download a file Gemini - delete it before you try and open it. There's no telling if it is set to be injected on execution.

Get someone else to download avast for you. and in stall it. he may be working to get past your firewall. Do you have mcafee? If you doo you should get avast anyway because of its shotty performance.

That's nothing new, his site goes down a lot. Half the time it's up you can't access it because of his ghetto hosting. The fact that it didn't load is par for the course. Nothing to lose sleep over.
