Talking Router

Well it turns out my router is fried too, (only one port works and the other 3 blink.) It seems hot to touch and i have tried resetting it etc and i still can not get the other ports to work.

Before i get another router, i did want to ask one networking question.

I have another computer on the other side of the house, (router to hub to usb nic)

I have blown out the entire network on that pc atried it as dhcp (not prefered) and static IP, It says I am connected to the network, but it can not resolve an ip (i.e. 0.0.0.0).

The router was set for static and dhcp server and it is not making any difference.

Before i go and get a wireless router i was hoping that someone might be able to tell me what i have not checked for.

I am pretty good with home networking and have not ever had an issue where i could not attain a static Ip. Not having a DHCP address makes it even more frustrating.

Or (packet might know this one) Is it that the router is cooked from the storm AND the hub is no good too? because i am wired from this PC to the port on the router and have aconnection (VERY WEAK with a lot of latency), but the uplink light n the hub is not tx or even showing its plugged in.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

if u dont have a link light from the hub to the router then it doesnt matter what type of ip address ur using u wont be able to connect. the absence of a link light usually means there is a physical problem in ur wiring, or network devices.

The link light or what ever it is labled on ur hub and router shows that u have a good physical layer connection. You need to get that working first then deal with the ip address.

On a side note - this is something you may have already done, but a lot of people miss it, on the "bad" ports on your router, did you try using the cable that is working on the "good" port with the other pc's? A shot in the dark, but maybe your cables got fried and not the router itself.
