Alone in the Dark: Near Death Investigation
I've been a fan of the series since 2001. I bought Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare upon learning it was a sequel to one of the original survival horror games. All of the games feature spooky environments and Edward Carnby is the main character. He is a supernatural detective who can die because he is a mortal. But if you find yourself close to death, you can drink a flask of alcohol or use a first aid kit.The only game that didn't feature Edward Carnby was Jack in the Dark, which features Grace Saunders instead. She was a supporting character in Alone in the Dark 2, which I consider to be the least terrifying addition to the saga. However I find it very enjoyable nevertheless. The next game in the series will be an episode based adventure, similar to The X-Files. From the new screenshots, it may take place in New York City. The graphics look incredible, but there's been no further mention of it coming to the PlayStation 3, although I'm sure it is going to be released on multiple platforms, including the PC and Xbox 360.The original Alone in the Dark game came out in 1992. As either Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood, you had to explore a huge mansion called Derceto because Emily's uncle died there under mysterious circumstances. There was no special abilities for the characters and they both had the same HP and storyline. If you died, they showed you a mini movie where you lay on a stone slab. Despite the outdated graphics, the Alone in the Dark series remain among the finest 3-D games of all time. The modern version is actually very similar to the Resident Evil series, which mainly featured zombies until Resident Evil 4 came out.
