TigerDirect's tv isn't 1080P either, it's 720P. For a 1080P LCD that price is absolutely insane. If I needed a new one I'd be looking at that one. Although... Westinghouse?

ok, this is how to buy a TV: (i just researched the hell out of it and bought a 42" Pioneer Elite plasma for $2100 at BB, it's about the 3rd best TV on the market)
1. unless the room you are in is very bright, buy a plasma, not an LCD.
2. >42 inches, get 1080p. <=42, 720p will be fine. (you cant see the difference)
3. Pioneer is the leader in plasma. Sony in LCD.
4. Westinghouse TVs suck at any price, they are some of the worst rated.
Dont give me "i dont have 2100, i only have 1100"; you arent required to buy crap just b/c you have less money. Get a Vizio, they are very good and cheap.

erm, Sony gets their stuff from Samsung, so samsung being the cheaper price point then a Sony, and coming from basically the same place, why bother with the extra $500 for a shorter company name.
that's my overall observation.
as for being picky, LED DLP, best overall black level out of ANY tv on the market(other then CRT, but it's close)
also, plasmas have low or akward resolutions, and everything(depending on the model and default resolution) is scaled in one way or another.

Some of those Westinghouse LCD's get very good reviews from people on AVS forums. I havevn't seen one myself though.

Good point, DLP becomes a factor over 60", if i remember correctly. The only problem ( a big one to me, but that's personal taste) is the halo or rainbow effect you get, particullary around objects and faces on a light background.
Samsung does make some excellent TVs, however, they happen to be plasmas. They are new to the LCD market (comparatively speaking).
LCDs tend to get pixel trails on fast motion (i.e. sports), but they are increasing the refresh rates to compensate on new models. They arent bad TVs, just not the best. They are amazingly bright.
AVGuide.com, CNet, and Consumer Reports are 3 good places to search for reviews on TVs and TV technology. Remember, this when you get home, you wont be watching 2 TVs side by side, so you wont know what you are missing, anyway. I'm just saying, buy a quality set, dont skimp. Happy hunting!

acutally lets get some things straight here
samsung agreed to fund 100% the cost to make the facility. in exchange sony would share their technology with samsung. and now as its built both share the running costs of it.
so samsun gis only doing better cus of that deal.
Also sony is still better and same priced if your comparing the same models
AKA
samsung xx71 to xbr4
samsung xx65f to sony w or v
and in every case the sony ends up ahead. barely ahead but ahead. the samsungs DNIE processor is a piece of shit and in every case where someone owns a samsung they should turn DNIE enchancements off.
