Post Medium-Range Router

I'm looking to get a new router and see a lot of different price ranges, but not a whole lot of specifics on the differences between them. Can I get some recommendations on routers that you use and have few issues with. Price may or may not be an issue depending if my company will pay for it since I work remotely every so often.

Do you need wireless? If not, your Wal-mart $30 special will probably work just fine.

I have a wired connection, work related issues prevent me from using Wireless. I will not be buying anything from Walmart... for future reference.

Do you use VPN? If so, you'll need one that supports VPN passthrough, like this one:

Thumbs up

Ive never had problems with the 3 routers from linksys. My friend owned 1, I owned 2, 1 wired (mother own it now, its about 4 years old and still kicking) and one wireless and have not have any problems with any of them. Very easy to setup and if you run into any problems can easily do a firmware update (ive never had any). I have not ever used any other routers so cant compare but never had any issues so why bother with anything else?

I have a linksys... I've been having issues with it. That is why I have to restart CS:S everytime the map changes and also why my mic goes to crap. I read Steam forums and sent in a help ticket and everything points to that.

So, I'd like to try something better than the cheapo pieces of machinery.

This is one of the highest rated mid-range routers out there. I have a D-link (wireless) right now and their support is outstanding. This one has packet prioritization that is optimized for online gaming.

Which Linksys are you having problems with Negative. The models that start with BEF or something like that are absolute shit. I've had a WRT54G version 2 that was flawless. I gave that one to the c*nt when I left her.

Last week I had to replace a BEFSW41 because the last 2 of 4 working ports took a crap. I replaced it with a WRT54GL and it works fine. I just disabled the wireless. I'll have it if I need it in the future. These WRT's run on Linux kernels so the uptime is [gay voice]fantabulous.[/gay voice]

Look around. WRT54GL is a highly recommended router. That one that Smurf pointed out looks interesting with the Gigabit speed.

Both me and my brother and my friend have never had any problems with our linksys router in any games. So either your router is bad, or is set up wrong. If you need further assistance with setting it up or helping install latest firmware let me know...could fix your problem. I would exhaust all your options before saying linksys sucks cause you have only had 1 linksys router.

Horse's post explains my situation a bit I have the BEF version, which Valve actually states causes issues with CS:S.
